Design trends are a strange phenomenon. Often, they seem like something out of an elaborate science fiction novel, but sometimes, they hit the mark perfectly. 2020 looks like it’s going to be one of the most laid back and relaxed years for trends. Here are a few relaxed trends to look into this upcoming season.

Mismatched Yet Personal

There has been a long-standing rule that everything needs to match and align. Color schemes need to compliment each other, the amount of personal items should be exactly relative to the space and even match the color scheme, certain book spines need to be next to other spines and other implementations of order. However, the trend is starting to tip in favor of collectors, clashers and everyone in between. Enter Boho-chic.

While there’s still the convention that having a solid, complimentary, color set keeps a room grounded, there’s now room for those odd pieces of furniture and accessories. There’s an arena for interesting textiles that are washer/dryer friendly instead of spot clean or steam cleaned fabrics. There’s space for added comfort and eccentricity. Boho-Chic values the individual style and comfort over conventional matching and orderly angles.

Personalize with Minimalism

While Boho-Chic may present an opportunity for people to introduce their odds and ends in their home, keeping things clean and minimalist is also making its appearance. Reducing some of the smaller, knickknacks for larger, more unique pieces helps tie the room together and maintain a breath of fresh, non-cluttered air.

Kick Back and Breathe

The last trend making its way up this ladder is the lived-in, comfort-first look. Cool colors, soft textures, a gently tossed throw over the arm of a couch, all inviting facets that will come heavily into play in 2020. While order is still valued, folks want to see that a space is lived in, whether they’re selling or just coming home to a cozy atmosphere: The lived-in, relaxed look is back.

There are plenty of styles making a name for themselves in 2020. These styles may range from color palettes to items to make different parts of your home pop. Either way you slice it, interior design trends are here to give your living space a breath of new life with its ebb and flow of styles.
